About Livingston, NJ

The American township of Livingston is located in Essex County, New Jersey. There were 29,366 people living in the township as of the 2010 US Census. On February 5, 1813, the New Jersey Legislature passed an act creating the township of Livingston out of parts of Caldwell and Springfield. Later, Fairmount and Roseland were created by taking pieces of the original township.

The township has the name of William Livingston, who served as New Jersey’s first governor, and for many years the township’s seal was made from his family’s coat of arms.
