Frequently Asked Questions about Automobile Accidents in Belleville, New Jersey

What should I do if I was in a car accident?

What is insurance with “no-fault”?

The auto insurance program employed in New Jersey is known as “no-fault” insurance. In New Jersey, it is a legal requirement for drivers to have personal injury protection coverage on their auto insurance. PIP coverage, sometimes known as “no-fault” coverage, can be used to help cover medical costs and other out-of-pocket expenditures incurred by a driver and their passengers after an automobile accident, regardless of who may have been at fault for the collision. No-fault insurance is designed to give those hurt in auto accidents quicker access to financial compensation to cover medical costs and other post-crash liabilities.

Do I qualify for punitive damages in my case?

A victim of an automobile accident may occasionally be granted punitive damages. Punitive damages are normally only used in vehicle accident situations where the party at fault acted in a severely reckless or intentional manner. Punitive damages are not meant to make up for the loss the accident victim suffered as a result of the collision; rather, they are meant to penalize the at-fault party for their actions and serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar activity.
