A woman was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision in Hillsborough on Jan. 4. The accident occurred just before 10:30 a.m., according to authorities. The results of a preliminary investigation by police showed that a 2012 Ford Focus was headed southbound on Millstone River Road when it crossed over into the northbound lane and struck a 1991 BMW 525 head-on. The BMW driver, a 50-year-old Hillsborough woman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her 20-year-old daughter was a passenger in the car and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. She was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The Ford driver, a 20-year-old Plainsboro man, was taken to the same hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Millstone River Road was shut down for approximately five hours while authorities conducted a preliminary investigation of the accident and cleared the wreckage. The Hillsborough Township Police Department, the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner's Office and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team were all present at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Accident investigation results can be used by those who are injured in a car accident as a basis for a civil lawsuit against the driver who caused the crash. With the aid of an attorney, injured victims may seek monetary compensation for losses they suffered in the accident, including medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. If someone was killed in a crash, certain family members such as a surviving spouse could file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault driver in civil court.
