One person died and four others were injured in a three-car accident that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike Extension. The accident began as a rear-end collision at 6:16 a.m. at a Jersey City tollbooth near exit 14C, but another car became involved as one of the vehicles involved was forced into another lane of traffic.

The 45-year-old Brooklyn man who died in the accident was a passenger in a Toyota, which was rear-ended at the tollbooth by a Lincoln Town Car driven by a 24-year-old Jersey City man. The Toyota was then struck by an Infiniti after it was pushed to the left across a median. The Toyota and Infiniti came to a stop in the lanes of exit 14C.

The Brooklyn man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Emergency crews took four people to Jersey City Medical Center in unspecified conditions. None of those victims suffered life-threatening injuries, according to reports.

Three toll lanes on the Turnpike were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. Police did not issue any citations or make any arrests as a result of the accident, though reports indicated the crash was still under investigation.

Family members of victims of fatal car accidents often struggle emotionally and financially after losing their loved ones. Households that depended on deceased family members’ income may have trouble with medical and burial expenses and sometimes need to find other sources of care and support for children and aging or ill relatives. Personal injury attorneys may be able to provide guidance to families interested in seeking compensation for damages resulting from fatal car accidents.
