Two are dead after a car crash yesterday on the New Jersey Turnpike. The car had reportedly been driving erratically at a very fast speed prior to striking an overpass support beam in a southbound truck lane near milepost 92.7 north of interchange 11 near Woodbridge. The car accident shortly before 1 p.m. when a Dodge Neon collided into the support beam of a bridge by Exit 11 near Garden State Parkway. Though a tractor-trailer had initially been reported to have been involved in the accident, no trucks were actually involved in the incident. State Police Captain Frank Davis said a witness may have seen a truck driver pulled over at the time of the incident. Prior to the accident there had been sleet and freezing rain for several hours, but it isn't clear yet whether the weather contributed to the accident. After the accident there was a five mile delay along the Turnpike's truck lanes, including the stretch from Exit 11 to Exit 13 in Elizabeth. The passengers of the 1998 Dodge Neon died of injuries resulting from the crash, but details concerning their identity had not yet been released as of yesterday and were still under investigation.
