North Bergin car accident kills high school senior

Car accidents often take the life of young people unexpectedly. Such occurrences, taking the life of the victim in their prime, are always tragic. A 16-year-old high school senior died in a North Bergen, New Jersey car accident on Sept. 22. According to sources, she had been riding in the passenger seat of a car that collided with a tree and a utility pole located close to 75th Street on West Side Avenue. The collision took place at approximately 8:26 p.m. Police department personnel, paramedics, EMS, and North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue were unable to revive the girl, who died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the vehicle, who was the girl's 20-year-old boyfriend, was also injured in the car accident. He was rushed to a local medical facility for treatment. Doctors described his condition as stable. Police investigating the incident reported that both occupants of the vehicle were wearing their required seat belts. The driver apparently drove off the road when he failed to maintain control of his car before smashing into the tree and utility pole. Police indicated that the speed at which the vehicle was traveling was clearly a factor in the severity of the injuries, although they did not state what the car's speed was at the time of the crash. North Bergin police are continuing their investigation of the accident, aided by personnel from the Homicide Department of the office of the Prosecutor of Hudson County.
