Tragic rollover accident rocks North Bergen

The unfortunate reality is that many serious or fatal car accidents are entirely preventable. In other words, if a driver had just followed the rules of the road, not had that last drink or put their phone away, or if a passenger had just taken a few seconds to buckle their seatbelt, tragedy could have been averted. Sadly, it appears as if this was the case in North Bergen this past Saturday after a horrific early morning crash killed three young men and left two others with serious personal injuries. According to reports, a 2008 Dodge Charger carrying five young men between the ages of 18-23 was traveling eastbound on Route 3 at around 4 a.m. this past Saturday when it left the road and crashed head on into a concrete pillar. The sheer force of the collision was so great that it caused the car to roll multiple times before finally coming to a stop before the 495 Interchange near the Lincoln Tunnel. The four passengers were all ejected from the car during the rollover accident, with only two surviving. Both were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where one is listed in stable condition and the other in critical condition. As for the driver, reports indicate that he was wearing his seatbelt, but died in the collision. While law enforcement officials are still busy trying to piece together the exact details of what caused this horrific car crash -- including whether drugs or alcohol was involved -- they do believe that speed likely played a factor. "They must have been traveling at a good clip," said one police official. Tragic car accidents like these once again underscore just how important it is for all drivers and all passengers, regardless of their age, to always obey the posted speed limit and make sure their seatbelts are fastened.
