Federal judge denies driver's request to stall lawsuit

The truck driver who was involved in the fatal Tracy Morgan crash that happened on the New Jersey Turnpike recently filed a motion requesting that the federal judge hearing the case against Wal-Mart halt it. The man's request was denied, and he is apparently requesting the judge reconsider her decision.

40-car pileup kills 1 and injures 15

An enormous multi-car collision occurred during adverse weather events on the New Jersey Turnpike on Feb. 9. A 52-year-old man from Bordentown was pronounced dead by authorities responding to the collision, and at least 15 other people suffered injuries that required medical attention.

The danger that unsafe tires can pose

With the heavy snowfalls that often occur in the northeast part of the country, New Jersey residents may rely on the state of their tires to keep them safe while traveling on the state's roads. However, not all drivers are as concerned over the condition of their tires as they should be. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, almost half of 11,500 vehicles examined were found with one or more tires in which the treads were worn down by half, and roughly 1,000 of those motorists had one or more completely worn tire.

Truck driver who crashed into philanthropist pleads guilty

A truck driver who was driving a Mack truck when he rear-ended a philanthropist's vehicle at a stoplight in West Windsor last year pleaded guilty to causing death by auto on Feb. 3. With the plea came an admission that the truck driver was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

New Jersey jury awards $3.5 million in personal injury case

After a 4.5 year wait, a 27-year-old Washington Township resident received one of the biggest jury awards for a personal injury case in that area, an award amounting to $3.5 million dollars. According to a release by a representative for the plaintiff, the New Jersey jury determined that woman, who suffered severe and life-long injuries to her neck and spine in the accident, was entitled to the award of $2.75 million dollars while her husband received $750,000. The accident was caused when another driver crossed the double yellow line and struck the woman head-on, leading to severe injuries to the plaintiff.

Large trucks and the dangers they can pose

Sharing the road with a large truck can be difficult in a place as tightly developed as New Jersey. The risks to both the driver of the truck and any vehicles around them are serious. Recent studies released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration imply that passenger vehicles may bear some of the risk as well as some of the responsibility.
