A mother’s worst nightmare occurred on Sunday morning when a woman witnessed her child being plowed over by a car and drug on the street in West New York. The Jersey Journal reports that a woman and her two young children were hit by a car at around ten o’clock on Sunday morning at the intersection of 64th Street and Bergenline Avenue.
Although none of the victims died from the car accident, all three were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center after the incident for treatment. The mother’s younger boy is now in critical condition in an Intensive Care Unit. Luckily, the woman and her other son are in stable condition and recovering from the accident.
The Volkswagen Jetta that struck the victims was reportedly driven by an elderly man. Sources didn’t provide any further details about the man’s condition.
A witness to the accident who was parking his car at the time of the accident said the driver had been travelling west on 64th street and turned right onto Bergenline just before he crashed into the family. The witness said he saw that the Jetta didn’t immediately stop after hitting the family, and that the 3-year-old boy was caught on the car and dragged between its wheels.
Police are still investigating the accident, trying to figure out exactly why it occurred. No charges have yet been filed in connection with the incident, and police said there likely will not be any filed.
