Violent pedestrian crash attributed to hit-and-run driver

On Nov. 14, two pedestrians in northern New Jersey were injured during a hit-and-run accident, according to authorities. The pedestrians, ages 11 and 20, received emergency transport to hospitals for treatment of their injuries, which officials depicted as critical. The younger pedestrian reportedly suffered damage to his brain.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at 9:50 p.m., when the two pedestrians were walking on a sidewalk on Kennedy Boulevard not far from Columbia Park. Police stated that a Nissan Rogue jumped the curb and struck both of them, propelling the 11-year-old pedestrian onto an iron fence. The vehicle then purportedly sped away from the accident scene without stopping.

Police commenced an investigation into the hit and run accident. The 20-year-old pedestrian underwent surgery at the Jersey City Medical Center for accident-related injuries, authorities said. The younger brother required brain surgery and remained in critical condition at the Hackensack Medical Center for Pediatric Surgery.

While the investigation into this incident remains ongoing and few details about the event have been disseminated by authorities, in general, pedestrians who suffer injuries on account of a traffic accident involving a reckless, careless or otherwise faulty driver may wish to establish liability and to seek financial restitution through a lawsuit filed in civil court. Accident victims possess the right to retain legal counsel, a personal injury attorney who may guide them through the process of preparing and presenting a claim. Victims and their attorney may glean material from the police investigation and employ private resources to establish a case that convinces a civil court that the negligent driver ought to be held liable for the accident and the resulting damages.
