New Jersey truck wrecks lead to safety concerns

After a series of New Jersey semi-truck accidents, including the crash that seriously injured Tracy Morgan and killed another, the National Transportation Safety Board began to look into the issues surrounding commercial truck safety. According to officials, there has been an increase in the number of fatal trucking accidents. Although some say the increase is due to an improving economy resulting in more tractor-trailers on the road, lawmakers have raised concerns about truck drivers' work schedules.

New Jersey 3-car accident kills 1, injures 4

One person died and four others were injured in a three-car accident that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike Extension. The accident began as a rear-end collision at 6:16 a.m. at a Jersey City tollbooth near exit 14C, but another car became involved as one of the vehicles involved was forced into another lane of traffic.

New Jersey Supreme Court urged to defend whistleblower law

The Supreme Court of New Jersey will hear a case that could have serious ramifications for employees intending to report wrongs committed by their employers this fall. The New Jersey Work Environment Council denounced what they claim is a corporate attack on concerned workers' rights in what appears to be a possible rollback of a key part of the Conscientious Employee Protection Act.

Actor Tracy Morgan in serious condition after accident

45-year-old actor Tracy Morgan is said to be in critical condition after an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. According to police, the incident took place at about 1 a.m. on June 7. One of the passengers in Morgan's vehicle, a New York man, died as a result of the crash, and several others were injured. Authorities have arrested the 35-year-old truck driver involved; he is expected to be charged with four counts of assault by auto.

Woman settles with township in sexual harassment suit

A New Jersey emergency medical technician agreed to $25,000 to settle a sexual harassment lawsuit she filed against the township that employs her. The amount covers back pay, front pay and compensatory damages. The settlement agreement that led to the payment did not include an admission of guilt and was decided by the Deptford Township's insurance carrier.

$4.5 million settlement for New Jersey woman injured by bus
